Titre EMRI Modeling in Perturbation Theory
Résumé Advances in gravitational wave detection systems continue to expand the range of possible signals that we may observe. These advances necessitate well-developed models of the physics behind detectable sources, in order to accurately produce waveforms of the gravitational radiation. In particular, many proposed space-based gravitational wave antennae will resolve lower frequency signals than their ground-based counterparts. One prime low-frequency source is the extreme mass-ratio inspiral (EMRI), or the decaying orbit of a light body about a heavy body, ending eventually in merger. Modeling an EMRI system lies comfortably within the realm of perturbation theory. My talk will overview the methods used in perturbation theory to model EMRI systems, including the approaches and techniques currently being used to work toward second-order results.
