Quantum quenches and off-equilibrium dynamical transitions in isolated quantum systems |
Résumé |
Quantum quenches are protocols corresponding to an abrupt change of
a parameter of the Hamiltonian of an isolated quantum system initially
prepared in the ground state. They mimic experimental procedures
used for cold atoms. In this talk I shall discuss the off-equilibrium
dynamics induced by quantum quenches by focusing on simple models
that can be fully studied analytically: the infinite dimensional Bose Hubbard
model and the three dimensional large-N $\phi^4$ quantum field theory.
In both cases, I shall show that there is a critical value of the quenching
parameter that leads to an out of equilibrium dynamical transition and
present its properties. I will conclude by discussing extensions
and limitations of our approach and the generality of this transition. |
