I will introduce semiholography as a new effective framework which can combine usual perturbative and
strongly interacting non-perturbative dynamical aspects involving different degrees of freedom in a
consistent way, and can describe all phenomena in terms of a few effective parameters. I will discuss this
first in the context of the quark-gluon plasma, and then in the context of hadronic and nuclear physics in
the large N_c limit. Our framework can potentially give a comprehensive theory for exotic pentaquark
states and also saturation phenomena in nucleons and nuclei. I will also sketch briefly how this effective
semi-holographic framework can be derived as a generalisation of effective QFT via a suitable extension of
Wilsonian RG itself, in which the cut-off is promoted to a functional of the elementary fields and
background sources, such that even physics at intermediate scales can be described by a few effective
parameters.
