Title | Binary black holes and neutron stars: astrophysical implications of gravitational-wave observations |
Abstract | Gravitational-wave observations of merging binary compact objects have opened new research directions in astrophysics. In this talk I will present a few implications on the study of the formation and merger rate of binary black holes and binary neutron stars and the relation with their galactic environments. In particular, I will discuss the formation of heavy elements in neutron star mergers and the abundance of these elements in the interstellar medium. |
