Résumé | The questions surrounding the microscopic nature of dark matter and the origin of the scale of weak interactions are among the deepest open problems in particle physics. After a decades-long experimental program we have found no sign that their traditional solutions are realized in Nature, leaving us to wonder how to move forward. In this talk I will discuss a new connection between these two questions that involves another long-standing problem in particle physics (the minuscule size of the neutron electric dipole moment) and the particle postulated to solve it, the axion. This change of theoretical perspective has important consequences for experiment that I will explore in the second part of the talk, where I outline a new experimental program for the next decade. |
