Titre | Polarization analysis of resonant x-ray diffraction: an ab initio study |
Résumé | In the last 10 years resonant x-ray scattering proved to be an invaluable technique to detect electronic and magnetic order parameters, due to its enhanced sensitivity to ordered structures close to an absorption edge. However, up to now, all experiments restricted themselves to the measurement of linear outgoing polarization in the rotated and unrotated channels, ie, P1 Stokes' parameter. I want to underline the importance of measuring all Stokes' parameters when several multipole resonances lie very close to each other, as this can lead to a linear-to-circular polarization conversion which is then a fingerprint of their interference. I shall deal with two examples: in the case of K2CrO4, we could explain very well the experimental data with our ab initio calculations, and confirm in this way the reality of the effect. In the case of CeFe2, we proposed an experiment of magnetic scattering at Ce L3 edge in order to single out one of the two theoretical models present in the literature to describe Ce ground-state. |
