Titre | High pressure synthesis and characterisation of novel superhard materials |
Résumé | We report HPHT synthesis of aggregated diamond nanorods (ADNRs) from fullerene and other precursors using a multi-anvil apparatus. The X-ray and measured density of ADNRs is 0.2- 0.4 % higher than that of usual diamond. The extremely high isothermal bulk modulus KT= 491(3) GPa was obtained by in situ X-ray diffraction study. Thus, ADNRs is the densest among all carbon materials and it has the lowest so far experimentally determined compressibility. We will also present recent data on synthesis and characterization of unique superhard aggregated boron nitride nanocomposites (ABNNCs) showing the enhancement of hardness up to 100% in comparison with single crystal cBN. In the talk methodological aspects of the development of synthesis and characterisation of superhard nanocomposites including nanodiamonds, ADNRs, and boron doped diamonds will be addressed. |
