Titre | Magnetically independent iron stripes controlled by a self-organized mnas template |
Résumé | The control of thin film magnetic properties without applying a magnetic field is an exciting challenge that couples new functionalities to the ancient phenomenon of magnetism. Recent experimental results have shown that spin polarized current and light can switch magnetic electrodes, electric voltage can control spontaneous magnetization direction, ferroelectricity can alter magnetization. In this framework, we propose the idea that most of the self-organized substrates present a natural spatial modulation of strain that could play the role of local magnetic tuner by altering the magnetic properties via magnetostrictive coupling or via local morphology modulations. In two recent investigations by X-ray Resonant Magnetic Scattering (XRMS) and Photo Emission Electron Microscopy (XPEEM) we showed that the magnetic structure of ultra-thin Fe films can be tuned by the temperature dependent microstructure of a self-organized magnetic template, MnAs/GaAs(001), without applying a magnetic field. |
