Title | Holographic Thermodynamics of Accelerating Black Holes |
Abstract | One of the more curious exact solutions of Einstein gravity is the "C-metric", a metric representing an accelerating black hole, the force being provided by a cosmic string emerging from the black hole horizon. The black hole is neither isolated, nor static, unless we embed it in AdS and drop the acceleration below the AdS scale - a so called "slowly accelerating black hole". I will describe how we can nonetheless derive thermodynamics for the non-isolated black hole, by including the cosmic string tension as a thermodynamical variable. As a result, a new chemical potential is introduced, the thermodynamic length, and I will discuss how a holographic perspective is essential for deriving the correct expressions for enthalpy and temperature. Finally, I'll demonstrate a set of extensive variables, or chemical expressions for the black hole that do not involve any reference to the geometrical parameters and describe some critical phenomena for the black hole. |
