Title |
ITER: objectives, status and physics of nuclear fusion plasmas |
Abstract |
The presentation will describe the overall objectives of the ITER project and the
status of component manufacturing and assembly in the context of the projects new
baseline proposed in 2024.This will also include the plans for ITERs scientific
exploitation up to the demonstration of nuclear fusion as an energy source for
humankind. The physics processes describing the behaviour of thermonuclear burning
plasmas in the ITER tokamak will be presented. Their relation to physics and
engineering operational limits impacting fusion energy production will be
discussed. The application of improved physics understanding to overcome such
limits and/or optimize fusion energy production in ITER will be illustrated. |
